Dream of a Street Child - 5" x 7" Print

No reviews

The girl in this photo is only pretending to read the newspaper.  She told the photographer, Shakila, that she dreams of going to school and someday being able to read a newspaper for real.  She is a street child, like many of the girls now in our employment and education programs.

5" x 7" print with mat - to fit 8" x 10" frame.  This image was taken as part of the VISION FOR EMPOWERMENT workshop series, which was offered to women in our Calcutta programs.  The goal of this project is both therapeutic self-expression and career exploration.  Photography is an overwhelmingly male-dominated field in India, yet many women are extremely interested in it, and as you can see, they have a natural vision and unique perspective.  The workshops were led by St. Augustine photographer Sarah Annay.  Print comes with a card explaining the project with quotes from the participants about what inspired them.
