I chose to purchase this ring to support the work being done to help survivors of human trafficking. The description of the ring said it was designed in partnership with a Researcher at Woods Hole Oceanographic Center (which is one of my favorite places in MA) and designed to represent plankton. We all depend on plankton for survival. They are invisible, but they account for 50% of the photosynthesis on this planet. Similarly, women in many cultures are sometimes 'invisible'. They are not seen, respected or appreciated, yet they play an essential role in the family, community, society and life itself.
It is a small price to pay to help women survive. Every time I wear the ring, I think of the woman who designed it. She is not invisible to me.
